Tiger's eye belongs to the family of microcrystalline quartz. It consists of silicon dioxide and contains quartz, amphiboles and hematite.
It is formed in a special way, namely the so-called "hydrothermal". Crocidolite, a fibrous mineral, dissolves and quartz forms in the altered zones. This substitution by quartz explains the iridescent and shiny appearance of tiger's eye.
